PROJECT 9: Druk Larzo (sister concern of Clean Bhutan) the first recycling plant in Bhutan – PET Plastic Flake making unit, Thimphu
This project is funded and supported by The Coca Cola Foundation with a sum of USD 100,000.00. Clean Bhutan, a civil society organization, has an innovative plan to transform PET plastic water bottles by turning discarded PET bottles into PET flakes. Currently, the recycling plant’s capacity is limited to shredding bottles into PET flakes. The project has become a mega-success and the students and local communities as it is the first of its kind in Bhutan. The students and local communities are learning about how useful PET plastic waste to convert to raw material to produce finished goods by completing the circular economy cycle.
A saying “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure” is coming to life as creativity and technology come together to tackle waste and promote sustainability. Currently, Druk Larzo, is seeking for additional financial support to produce Polyester wool and 3D filament printing ink machines.
PROJECT 8: WASTE ACADEMY “CHANGJIJI- A ZERO WASTE MODEL COMMUNITY”
A waste academy to promote zero waste community by practicing the 4Rs. The objective of the project is to educate every individual citizen to understand and practice minimalistic by understanding sustainable consumption lifestyle. This institute conduct one month training programs to the local communities across the nation on sustainable waste management and initiate circular economy by using waste as secondary resources. This project is funded by the Bhutan Trust Fund for Environmental Conservation (BTFEC) with a sum Nu 9.95 million.
PROJECT 7: WATERKEEPER ALLIANCE, USA IN BHUTAN
The objective of this project is to protect the river from pollution and to monitor quality of the river water. Provide data to the public and government agencies for appropriate decision-making to protect from water pollution. This project is funded by WaterKeeper Alliance USA. Clean Bhutan is also the official representative for WaterKeeper Alliance USA, in Bhutan.
PROJECT 6: MODEL on SAFE AND PROPER DISPOSAL OFSANITARY PADS FOR GIRLS STUDENTS
Celebrating the "The International Day of the Girl Child" to promote girl’s empowerment and fulfilment of their human rights. The project starts on the 11th. October 2018 - a one year program. A program on Safe and Proper Disposal of Sanitary Pads” to the two high schools, two teachers' colleges and one nunnery in Bhutan, supported by Bhutan National Bank Limited (BNBL). A sum of Nu: 0.5082 million. A target group of 1,050 girls students and nuns. The main objective of the program to reduce absentee of girls going to school and colleges and to provide a safe and healthy disposal unit within the campus. The project is implement by Clean Bhutan in collaboration with Ministry of Education, Royal Government of Bhutan, Royal University of Bhutan (RUB).
PROJECT 5: Empowering women & Youth through Waste Entrepreneurship (2017/18)
“Empowering women and youth through Waste entrepreneurship” supported to- support to civil society in Bhutan – from EU Helvetas Bhutan A sum of Nu: 1.2 million. Target group Thimphu city women from Royal Bhutan Police, Royal Bhutan Army and youth.
PROJECT 4: Small Grants Programme/Global Environment Project (SGP/GEF UNDP)-2016/17
An eighteen months project on “Waste management system for Trashiyangtse community” from December 2016 to February 2018. The project is funded by small grant project, UNDP/GEF with a sum of Nu 2.8 million.
PROJECT 3: Waterkeeper Alliance (2016/17)
November 2015: A project on Thim Chu Waterkeepers implemented by Clean Bhutan in collaboration with Waterkeepers Alliance partnership with National Environment Commission and Department of Hydro-Met Services. The project area is along Thim Chu starting from Dodena to Damchu. The objective of the project is to protect the river from pollution and to monitor the water quality. Provide data to public and government for appropriate decision making to protect Thim Chhu pollution.
PROJECT 2: Bhutan Trust Fund for Environment Conservation (BTFEC)-2016/17
A two-year project on “Advocating Behavioral Change-Managing our own waste-Mongar and Trashigang ” in collaboration with local governments which commenced in the month of July 2015. The project is supported by Bhutan Trust Fund for Environment Conservation with a sum of Nu 6.8 million, completed on June 2017.
